The GDE (Georgia Domain Explorer) project was born out of personal necessity in the fall of 2025. It all started with an attempt to find an available three-letter domain in the .ge zone. It turned out there weren't many short and catchy names left, and checking their availability manually took too long. That is how the first Node.js script was created, generating all possible 3-character combinations and running an automated status check.
During the process, it became clear: the general statistics from the official zone administrator, nic.ge, only provide dry numbers of total registrations. But what are these websites about? How many are actually active? What tech stack do they use, and how are they evolving?
Today, GDE.ge is a complex software ecosystem and the only open database in Georgia that tracks the dynamics of the local internet's development. Under the hood operates a distributed system of workers: our bots (powered by Puppeteer) regularly crawl active websites. We collect SEO data, identify CMS and technologies (tech stack), check for HTTPS availability, record server IP addresses, and capture screenshots.
General zone statistics and registrar lists are updated every 6 hours. In-depth website analysis runs through a smart load-balancing queue: stable, active sites are re-checked every 150 days, while domains nearing their expiration date are scanned every 30 days to promptly track their status changes.
We use headless browsers to safely parse website structures and extract clean text content. This data is then passed to AI models (LLMs), which highly accurately sort sites into categories, determine their emotional tone, and generate translated descriptions.
Yes! Our system optimizes resources to monitor domain statuses 24/7. We provide open access to lists of available 2- and 3-character names, a database of fresh "drops" (recently released addresses), and curated selections of premium domains (e.g., XYX, XXY patterns).
We regularly publish analytics: studying registrar market shares, the average lifespan of websites, and the ownership architecture of the local internet. This helps businesses, SEO specialists, and developers understand the true state of the Georgian IT market.
