How We Collect Data and Calculate Ratings

Transparency, Accuracy, and Open Algorithms

Welcome to the methodology page of Georgia Domain Explorer (GDE.ge). We believe in data transparency. Our goal is to build the most accurate, transparent, and useful analytics platform for the Georgian internet ecosystem.

Below, we explain in detail where the information on our website comes from, how our algorithms work, and the formula used to calculate the Quality Score of each domain.

1. Where Do We Get Domain Data?

Building a database of .GE domains is a complex multi-stage process because the official registry database is not publicly available for security and privacy reasons. We use two independent approaches:

  • Short domains (2–4 characters): We algorithmically generate all possible dictionary-based combinations (without mixing letters and numbers) and regularly query public DNS servers and WHOIS databases. This allows us to maintain an up-to-date database of available short domain names that users can search and explore free of charge.
  • Longer and active domains: To build our main catalog, we aggregate historical data obtained from independent international internet routing analytics providers.

2. Technical Crawling and Performance Analysis

Every website in our database undergoes a deep technical audit. We do not use third-party databases "as-is" — we crawl and analyze websites ourselves.

  • Rendering and Technologies (Custom Crawler): Our Puppeteer-based crawler physically visits each website, captures a real screenshot, measures HTML size, analyzes HTTP security headers, identifies technologies in use (CMS, frameworks), extracts phone numbers and social media links, measures loading speed from our servers, collects Open Graph tags, page titles, and additional signals such as WebArchive snapshots and Wikipedia references.
  • Performance (Google PageSpeed API): To evaluate loading speed, server response time (TTFB), and Core Web Vitals metrics (LCP, FCP, CLS), we use the official Google PageSpeed API. This ensures our performance data matches how the world’s leading search engine evaluates websites.

3. How We Calculate the GDE Quality Score (QS)

Quality Score is our internal dynamic website quality rating. It is not static and is recalculated regularly. At present, the score is based on business transparency, technical security, and user engagement. A website may exceed 100 points if it achieves significant popularity.

Current Calculation Formula:

  • Basic Security: Active HTTPS/SSL certificate (+20 points).
  • Business Transparency: Public phone number (+15 points), links to official social media profiles (up to +15 points).
  • Age and Authority: +1 point for each full year since the domain was first registered (maximum +20 points).
  • Ratings and Reviews: Review score multiplied by 5, plus a bonus based on the number of approved reviews (up to +25 points).
  • Reactions (Emoji): Weighted algorithm of positive and negative reactions (can add up to +50 points or deduct up to -10 points in cases of spam or fraud).
  • Internal Popularity: Bonus points for every 500 page views within the GDE.ge platform (up to +10 points).
Note: Future updates will expand the QS formula to include technical performance metrics, page weight, and Google PageSpeed data.

4. Global Analytics and OSINT Research

In addition to individual website profiles, we provide macro-level analytics for the Georgian internet ecosystem, including CMS market share, registrar statistics, and website age distribution.

  • Global Statistics: Updated by automated scripts four times per day.
  • Category Statistics: Analytics within specific niches (such as "Tourism" or "Arts") are recalculated once per day.

Trackers and Analytical Footprints (OSINT): Our parser collects analytics identifiers (Google Analytics, Yandex Metrica, Facebook Pixel). These data are used exclusively for internal research and macro-analytics (for example, measuring market share of analytics platforms or identifying large website networks). Raw IDs are never published publicly for security reasons.

5. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

All our metrics, statistics, and charts are based solely on deterministic mathematical algorithms and scripts. Artificial intelligence does not make decisions regarding website ratings.

However, we use advanced LLM models (AI systems) for linguistic tasks:

  • Creating short, objective, and easy-to-read website summaries based on crawled content.
  • Accurate multilingual translation of user reviews to eliminate language barriers between Georgian, English, and Russian speakers.

6. Data Privacy (WHOIS and Contacts)

We strictly respect the privacy rights of website owners:

  • If a registrar or domain owner has hidden WHOIS information (Privacy Protection, Redacted), we display the status "Data Hidden".
  • We do not collect hidden phone numbers or email addresses from registry systems. The contact section on GDE.ge displays only phone numbers and links that business owners have voluntarily published on the homepage of their websites.
